El Albaicin & Sacromonte

Two of the most historically, culturally and visually interesting parts of town in Granada are the Albaicin and Sacromonte.

The Albaicin is Spain's largest intact Islamic neighborhood as well as the country's most characteristic. Climbing up a steep hill are tiny cobbled streets, white-washed facades, tiny courtyards and colorful potted flowers, all if it overflowing with character. Not only are the neighborhood's architecture and atmosphere impeccably preserved, but today it also boasts tons of restaurants, flamenco locales, tea rooms and outdoor cafes. This contrast makes it truly one of the most enjoyable places to be.

Also not to be missed is Sacromonte, Granada's traditional gypsy neighborhood and truly one-of-a-kind district, which is characterized by still-inhabited cave dwellings dug right into the mountain. While they were pretty basic back in the day, today these cave dwellings are modern and boast modern amenites; many of the cave homes have been turned into hotel rooms for rent or flamenco venues. It definitely has an atmosphere and style all of its own!

***BONUS! If you sign up to study with Enforex Granada, you could attend a flamenco show in one of Sacromonte's caves, one of the most popular school-organized activities amongst our students!
